X-ray of Brazil

Through his art, Bené reflects on the reality of his homeland and the memories of his childhood. X-Ray of Brazil is a deeply personal body of work portraying the struggles of Brazil’s most vulnerable communities—stories shaped by poverty, hunger, crime, loss, and death, but also by resilience and hope.

Throughout the collection, the people themselves appear in black and white, surrounded by vivid colour. This contrast is intentional: a reflection of how, within the wider landscape of society, their lives and their stories can become invisible—present, yet unseen.

Each painting is therefore more than a scene or a memory. It is a fragment of a reality, an attempt to reveal what lies beneath the surface and to preserve the stories of those who are so often left unseen. Together, these works form an intimate visual portrait of Brazil as Bené has known and experienced it.

X-Ray of Brazil is exhibited periodically in galleries, sharing this deeply personal chapter of Bené’s artistic journey with a wider audience.
